| Lake County is one of the original Colorado counties. Parts of the original Lake County were split off to form: 1866's Saguache; 1874's La Plata and Hinsdale; 1876's San Juan; 1877's Gunnison and 1879's Chaffee Counties. Also in 1879, Lake County was briefly renamed Carbonate County. | |||||||
