The Legislature of 1875 enlarged its territory by taking the north one-half of Kiowa County, and making it the south part of Edwards County; the south one- half of Kiowa became the northern part of Comanche County.₁

Organized in 1874. County seat Greensburg. Named after the Kiowa Indians.
