Hi - my name is Judi Burns, I live in Indiana and I love genealogy.
I will gladly accept any submissions for this site. Just e-mail them to the e-mail address provided at the bottom of this page and others, It already contains the subject line incorporated into it for your convinence.
I had one inquiry as to if I wanted Washington co. Obits. It was of 3 to 4 surnames and the e-mail came sometime around 15 Sep. 2005. I received the e-mail but was unable to reply to it, forward it, save it, print it out or open it all it demanded of me was to install something for my IE browser - since I have enough trouble with this computer I dared not and I am sure I have all the updates for IE that is for Windows 95. I am sorry I could not get back to you - if you are out there will you try again? New computer - XP promise to try get this all reorganized better soon.
I am unable to look up, transcribe or locate and obituary for you. Please refer to Obituary Tips for help on finding an obituary. Or you may try Obit Look-up Volunteers.
To help make my job as coordinator easier follow the following instructions for a word file (text) attachment to an e-mail. Other wise an e-mail with all the necessay information needed will be acceptable:
Transcriber Guidelines Uploaded files will be in a text format (.txt).
This is the recommended format that files should be submitted.
Please use font type 'Courier New', size 10pt (plain text).
Avoid using tabs, as columns do not always line up correctly in all browsers when tabs are used.
Full obit transcriptions will only be accepted from newspapers that have given permission or those in the Public Domain (ie., pre-1929). Place the name of the deceased at the head of the transcription followed by the name of newspaper; date of publication; and Volume # Issue # page # and Column # if known but not mandatory. Transcribe the obit as written and if correcting spelling or dates place the corrected information within brackets []. This is an example of the basic format:
Please help the project by contacting newspaper to ask their permission. This sample letter should be helpful. Send a scanned copy of the response along with the transcription
