Accomack County
The shire of Accomac was created in 1634 and later renamed
Northampton in 1642.
By 1663, Northampton was split into two parts and the northern part was renamed
Accomac. (In these two counties are found the earliest continuous court records
in America dating from 1632.) In 1670 it was abolished and recreated in 1671.
The spelling of the county officially became Accomack in 1940.
